1940s Copa de Oro Ceramic Turbanned Lady Face Pin ~ MAZIE 1940s Copa de Oro Ceramic Turbanned Lady Face Pin ~ MAZIE
Meet Mazie! Spectacular ceramic face pin brooch, circa 1940s, by California Pottery maker Copa de Oro. These face brooches are similar to those made by Elzac, and this lady has the characteristic cut-out eyes of Copa de Oro pieces. Her turban is a forest green color with metallic gold painted stripes; white ceramic spirals are glued on to her headdress and neckline. 3" in height with two-part embedded metal pin mechanism (c-clasp). Original stickers are still on the back which include the name of this gal. Excellent condition apart from mild surface crazing, typical of this age piece. - $120

1940s ceramic face pin by California Pottery company Copa de Oro features an exotic beauty with gilded snake-like hair and tropical flower and leaves at the crown of her head. A paper label on the back proclaims her name to be Lin; she is one of several face pins produced by this company, very similar to the Elzac Victims of Fashion face pins. The Copa de Oro versions have cutouts for the eyes. Lin measures 3 1/4" height and has a large glued-on pin back. Very good condition with some light scrapes on the back and a small chip off the top of a flower on her head (not noticeable from normal viewing distance). - $120

Elzac California Pottery Ceramic & Fur Lion Pin Brooch Elzac California Pottery Ceramic & Fur Lion Pin Brooch
Huge and adorable! This sleepy figural lion face brooch is one of the best Elzac pieces I've come across. Unmarked as were most of the Elzac animal and face pins, with the characteristics of this famous 1940's California Pottery company. Beige ceramic face with painted closed-eye features, mint green suede bow to match the eyes and real fur for the mane. Wood backing with inset metal pin back. The ceramic face itself measures nearly 2" in height, and the voluminous mane adds a great deal more circumference -- 5" or more. Excellent condition. - $200

Elzac Ceramic Victim of Fashion Face Pin ~ Metallic Gold Soutache Braid Hair Elzac Ceramic Victim of Fashion Face Pin ~ Metallic Gold Soutache Braid Hair
This one is different yet, than the numerous Elzac face pins I've seen. Unmarked Elzac was a California Pottery company that made these whimsical ceramic pins during the 1940s, when wartime created metal shortages and inspired creative use of materials. This is one of the nicest faces I've seen, her painted features are great with long, lushes eyelashes and daring teal and mauve eyeshadow. There are just a couple specks of paint loss to the lipstick but otherwise the paint is virtually intact. Her hair is fashioned from metallic gold soutache braid, intertwined and glued into place. A suede-backed gold foil crown and a cluster of faux pearls tops her head. Unfortunately most of the pearls have lost their nacre over time and new owner may wish to replace them. I've adjusted the price because of this one detraction.

3 3/8" total height. Wood backing has some light pencil (?) notations which I can't read and have not tried to clean. Metal pin back is clean and in good working order. Back View - $80
